National Forestry Seed Research and Referral Centre is established at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun as a part of the Centre of Excellence for Forest Genetic Resources, with the objective of providing a common platform for data and information at National level to all research institutions and other stakeholders of the forestry sector concerned with forestry seed science. It also aims to co-ordinate with all ICFRE institutes, Government and private Forestry Universities, Forest departments, SFRIs, NGOs, regarding sharing and collation of information and photographs about distribution, habit and habitat of forestry species and their seeds, in order to build-up on and strengthen the database and seed centre on forestry seeds. It is a digital platform for accessing all information (including pictorial) on forestry seeds and also displays seed specimen of forestry species for identification and display of their diversity, in the seed herbarium.
